RNF Technologies’ Faisal Abidi Talks About Spam Traps

Most email providers have a separate folder for scam emails, collecting junk emails from spammy addresses. There are specific factors considered by internet service providers (ISPs) to label an email as spam. Some senders mistakenly end up sending emails that land in the customer’s spam folder, which impacts the owner’s reputation. To prevent individuals and businesses from writing emails that land in the user’s spam folder, we reached out to Faisal Abidi, Co-Founder of RNF Technologies. We asked him to address spam traps and ways to prevent one’s emails from getting spammed. With his 12+ years of experience in helping global businesses with digital solutions, he gave a detailed description of how spam emails are classified and shared a few tips that need to be taken into account while drafting an email.

3 Types Of Spam Traps Highlighted By RNF Technologies’ Faisal Abidi

Internet service providers and anti-spam organizations create spam traps to identify and block fake email addresses, thus reducing spam traffic. Spam traps evaluate the email addresses and use their past messages to classify them as spam, shares RNF Technologies’ Faisal Abidi. Let’s discuss the three types of spam traps.

  • Pristine Spam Traps

ISPs create some email addresses as spam traps to identify the spam email addresses and block them. They add these addresses to websites, and when the spammers pick up email addresses from websites, they accidentally pick up the trap. When they send spammy messages to these addresses, ISPs get to know about these spammers and mark them as spam. Faisal Abidi, Head of Phonato Studios, the product development arm of RNF Technologies, shares that some non-spam companies send emails in a format that appears to be spam, which harms the reputation of their brands.

  • Recycled Spam Traps

These spam traps are created when genuine legitimate email addresses are no longer used. Faisal Abidi, Phonato Studios, reveals that the email addresses of the employees who have left the companies or some other email ids created by an individual but again don’t use anymore are all repurposed as spam traps. But they are not as damaging as the pristine spam traps. They do have a sense of legitimacy and attract legitimate traffic as well, thus are less likely to cause harm to their senders or not easily label their senders as spam.

  • Typo Spam Traps

These spam traps include legitimate email addresses, but when carefully examined, one can find a typo. For instance, @yaho.com instead of @yahoo.com, @gogle.com instead of @google.com, and many more typos. Although they are less harmful, just like recycled spam traps, they notify the anti-spam authorities about such email addresses, underlines Faisal Abidi, RNF Technologies.

After highlighting the different types of spam traps, Faisal Abidi, Phonato Studios shared some best email practices.

  • It’s better to avoid buying email lists as they contain various spam trap addresses that can get you labeled as spam.
  • One can use email validation while allowing users to enter their email addresses to prevent illegitimate addresses from reaching your list.
  • Double verification for recipients’ email addresses ensures they are interested in receiving your emails or newsletters.
  • One of the most common mistakes of businesses is that they don’t update their contact lists. They keep sending messages to everyone, irrespective of whether they are replying. Unfortunately, this practice labels their email address as spam; thus, in the worst-case scenario, the company gets blacklisted, which stresses Faisal Abidi, RNF Technologies.
  • Faisal Abidi, Phonato Studios suggests asking for consent from the recipients before sending bulk messages. It will ensure that the recipient asks for the service emails and newsletters.
